Basketball Game Preview: Bayfield Wolverines vs. Aztec Tigers

Bayfield is 0-3 against Aztec since December of 2014 but things could change on Thursday. The Bayfield Wolverines are taking a road trip to challenge the Aztec Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Bayfield will be strutting in after a victory while Aztec will be coming in after a loss.

Bayfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped back in December of 2024 as they easily beat Non Varsity Tournament Opponent 51-17. The Wolverines have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 21 points or more this season.

Bayfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Renae Foutz led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave Foutz a new career-high. Vivien Clance was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine steals.

Bayfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 36 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Aztec suffered their biggest defeat since January 26, 2024 on Tuesday. They took a blow against Farmington, falling 67-27. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Scorpions recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

The win got Bayfield back to even at 3-3. As for Aztec, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Bayfield took a serious blow against Aztec in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 54-13. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Aztec's Jazzlyn Gomez, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 steals.
