Atlantic has gone 8-2 against Mainland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Atlantic Sharks are taking a road trip to square off against the Mainland Buccaneers at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Mainland will be up against a hot Atlantic team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went Atlantic's way against Matanzas on Tuesday as Atlantic made off with a 14-3 victory. With that win, the Sharks brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Josiah Perez, who scored four runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jake Cronin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Atlantic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mainland). They blew past Wekiva 24-2 on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Buccaneers with their most commanding win of the season.
Jeremiah Peach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Mainland's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Peach was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mainland got a massive performance out of Mateo Bond, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Bond a new career-high in RBI (two). Trevor Pittman was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Atlantic's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mainland, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Atlantic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mainland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Atlantic was able to grind out a solid victory over Mainland in their previous matchup last Tuesday, winning 9-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Atlantic since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
