Rocky Mountain has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Legacy Lightning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
A well-balanced attack led Rocky Mountain over the Impalas in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Rocky Mountain strolled past the Impalas with points to spare, taking the game 55-38. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 13 more assists than your opponent, as Rocky Mountain did.
Morgen Delap was nothing short of spectacular: she almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Meela Delap was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three blocks.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Legacy's strategy against the Mustangs on Tuesday. Legacy took down the Mustangs 60-43. The win was just what Legacy needed coming off of a 67-43 loss in their prior game.
Legacy relied on the efforts of Meghan Allshouse, who scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds, and Olivia Mortensen, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Mortensen has scored at least a third of Legacy's points.
Rocky Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Legacy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Sara Chicco and Mortensen. Chicco has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 20.5 points, 2.5 steals, and 3.5 rebounds. For her part, Mortensen has averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 steals, and 12.9 rebounds.
Rocky Mountain might still be hurting after the 63-39 defeat they got from the Lightning in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Rocky Mountain, Madison Gage (who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
