The Eastern Comets will head out to face off against the Clinton Prairie Gophers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eastern has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
While Eastern's win against Marion wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Comets had just enough and edged out the Giants 13-11. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Giants recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Ava Roberson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Emillia Andrews was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Jenna Oman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Eastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 7-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Clinton Prairie got the win against Fountain Central on Monday by a conclusive 20-3. The result was nothing new for the Gophers, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Eastern, Clinton Prairie also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddy Wessell. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Wessell was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keera Grizzle, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Harrison Livengood, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Eastern's record is now 9-10. As for Clinton Prairie, their record now sits at 11-8.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eastern hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like Clinton Prairie struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
