The Northwest Mohawks will head out to face off against the Eastern Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Northwest made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Oak Hill, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mohawks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Oaks an 11-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Mohawks, who have now won four matches in a row.
Annika Carpenter made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Carpenter was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Northwest got a big performance out of Lauren Copp, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3. Joshline Sanford was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Eastern). They were the clear victors by a 27-0 margin over Glenwood on Tuesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Like Northwest, Eastern also got a great game from a two-way player: Kelly Wells. Throwing, Wells tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Leah Rader struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Wells scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Rader scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Wells has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Quillen, who scored five runs and stole two bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Madilen Day also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Northwest pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Eastern, their record is now 6-3.
Northwest was able to grind out a solid victory over Eastern when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 11-8. Do the Mohawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
