Volleyball Recap: Desert Pines Triumphs

While Desert Pines's victory against Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Desert Pines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon on Monday. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Pirate recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Desert Pines took Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 26-28, 15-10.

Among those leading the charge was Cesar Velasco, who had seven kills and six aces. That's the most aces he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Velasco wasn't the only good server: Desert Pines was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 19 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in six consecutive matchups.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-9.

Coincidentally, Desert Pines and Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon will both be playing Boulder City the next time they take the court. Desert Pines will head out to face Boulder City at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon will host them at 6:00 p.m. on April 1.
