Granger had lost six games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-16 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Cottonwood Colts as they made off with a 13-6 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Lancers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Alyiana Arriaga made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Haylie Harper was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Mackenzie Salazar was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
As for Cottonwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.
Like Granger, Cottonwood also got a great game from a two-way player: Gretta Lewis. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and nine unearned) runs off eight hits. Lewis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Breeya Busey was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Looking ahead, Granger will be playing at home against Taylorsville at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Cottonwood, they are taking a road trip to challenge Murray at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season.
