The Aiken Fighting Green Hornets have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell to South Aiken 40-36. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Aiken of the 46-39 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Aiken lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Azaria Sapp, who scored nine points along with four blocks and three steals. Norriyah Bradley was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
South Aiken got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sumara Williams out in front who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Zanayia Harrison, who scored eight points.
Aiken's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-5. As for South Aiken, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-9.
Aiken will head out on the road to face off against Airport at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Airport will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. South Aiken will take on North Augusta at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Augusta presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Aiken in South Carolina (North Augusta is ranked fifth, while South Aiken is ranked 94th).
