After having lost a blowout in their previous game against North Duplin, the Lejeune Devil Pups were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Liberty Christian Academy 20-18.
Lejeune was led to victory by Scarlett McLean and Shyanne Bryant. McLean scored 4 points along with 11 steals, while Bryant dropped a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bryant has scored at least 25% of Lejeune's points.
Despite the defeat, Liberty Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: Hollyn Thigpen scored 6 points along with 5 steals.
Lejeune's victory bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Liberty Christian Academy, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lejeune will take on North Duplin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Duplin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lejeune in North Carolina (North Duplin is ranked 28th, while Lejeune is ranked 379th). Liberty Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cape Fear Academy at 5:00 p.m. on December 11th.
