TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -
DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) took an early lead against
Godby (Tallahassee, Fla.) and held on for a 26-9 victory on Saturday.
The Stags put up 13 points in the opening quarter. DeMatha scored on a touchdown pass by
John Lovett to
Cam Phillips and a Lovett touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a Lovett touchdown pass to Phillips in the first quarter, DHS led 20-3 at the half.
Each side put up six points during the third quarter, and the fourth quarter began with the margin still at 17.
Godby's lone touchdown came on an 89-yard kick return by
Kenny Young in the third quarter.
The loss comes after Godby defeated Plant 35-16 last week. The win brought DeMatha's winning streak to three games.
Godby (1-2) goes up against Chiles in a non-conference game matchup next week, while DeMatha (3-0) locks horns with St. Joseph Regional also in a non-conference game.
