After four games on the road, Dunbar is heading back home. They will take on the Barron Collier Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Dunbar will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 619th, while Barron Collier is ranked 178th).
Dunbar suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of South Fort Myers by a score of 57-54.
Despite the loss, Dunbar saw an underclassman step up: Hezekiah Jones scored 20 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Garyan Burger, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, Barron Collier waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Aubrey Rogers 83-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Spencer Clayton was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with three steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Gabe Markhart was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Dunbar's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Barron Collier, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.
Dunbar beat Barron Collier 77-68 in their previous matchup back in January of 2020. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Barron Collier's Connor Mackay, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be that much easier for Dunbar to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
