The Perry Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Jefferson Area Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Perry's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Jefferson Area's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Perry and Geneva had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Pirates put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 9-1 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Sophie Sivon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Arianna Rogers, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Rosalyn Tharp, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Rogers wasn't the only one making solid contact: Perry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Area entered their tilt with West Geauga on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Wolverines.
Jefferson Area also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Olivia Lewis gave up a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Allison Hill was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Rylee Demattia was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Perry's record is now 8-4. As for Jefferson Area, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Perry hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Jefferson Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Perry took their victory against Jefferson Area in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-1 score. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
