Heritage hasn't had much luck against Memorial recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Coyotes will head out to take on the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Heritage will be strutting in after a victory while Memorial will be coming in after a loss.
Heritage will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Independence, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Coyotes came out on top in a nail-biter against the Knights on Tuesday, sneaking past 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Coyotes.
Heritage wouldn't go down easily and took Independence into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-19, 25-12, 23-25, 15-10.
Meanwhile, Memorial came up short against Centennial on Tuesday and fell 3-1. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Titans recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Memorial started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-17, 25-13, 26-24.
Despite the defeat, Memorial saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Valentina Elsen had ten digs and two aces. Elsen is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in each of the last three games she's played.
Heritage's win bumped their record up to 17-12. As for Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 23-12.
Heritage couldn't quite get it done against Memorial when the teams last played back in September as they fell 3-1. Can the Coyotes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
