The Aurora Central Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 56-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Adams City. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Aurora Central in their matchups with Adams City: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamaea Johnson Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Johnson Gonzalez has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alayna McClain, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Adams City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Morgan Williams, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Williams is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Fernanda Hernandez, who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, ten rebounds, and 12 steals.
Aurora Central dropped their record down to 6-8 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.3 points per game. As for Adams City, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-8 record this season.
Aurora Central won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hinkley at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Hinkley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last ten games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Adams City, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Thornton at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Thornton is ranked 251st, while Adams City is ranked 255th).
