The Cumberland Valley Eagles waltzed into their game on Saturday with 14 straight wins but they left with 15. They strolled past Manheim Township with points to spare, taking the game 58-42. Given Cumberland Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Manheim Township is ranked 410th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cumberland Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nolan Buzalka led the charge by scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Buzalka has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Adam Somerville was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Cumberland Valley's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Manheim Township, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cumberland Valley will square off against Central Dauphin at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Central Dauphin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Manheim Township, they will head out on the road to face off against Cedar Crest at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
