Chancellor has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Spotsylvania Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Chancellor will be strutting in after a win while the Knights will be coming in after a defeat.
Chancellor put the finishing touches on their 14th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Caroline 62-30 at home. Given Chancellor's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 281st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Kendall Scott, who scored 19 points along with six assists and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last 11 games she's played. Maya Johnson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Spotsylvania was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 48-44 to the Foxes.
Despite their loss, Spotsylvania saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. JAYLAH BLACK, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. BLACK is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of MORGAN MASLOCK, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Chancellor's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Spotsylvania, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Chancellor have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 38.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Spotsylvania struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Chancellor took their win against the Knights in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 62-37. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Spotsylvania's KELLY ROSS, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Chancellor still be able to contain ROSS? There's only one way to find out.
