The East St. Louis Flyers were the 44-42 winner over the Springfield Southeast Spartans when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. East St. Louis fell to Springfield Southeast 55-49.
Marisa Gant continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Springfield Southeast, scoring 21 points along with four steals. Gant has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Navehua Collier, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
East St. Louis' loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-13. As for Springfield Southeast, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-11 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East St. Louis will take on Vashon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Springfield Southeast, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Quincy at 12:30 p.m. on January 13th. Quincy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Springfield Southeast in Illinois (Quincy is ranked 43rd, while Springfield Southeast is ranked 320th).
