Kaden Peterson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Rogan Scriver was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Blake Sexton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Minnesota Valley Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sleepy Eye only posted an OBP of .306.
Meanwhile, New Ulm Cathedral came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. Four seems to be a good number for the Greyhounds as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The result came thanks to Jake Finstad's shutout, as he gave up just three hits.
On the hitting side, Elliot Schabert was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
New Ulm Cathedral's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Minnesota Valley Lutheran, their record is now 9-6.
