The Lumen Christi Catholic Titans will head out on the road to square off against the Grass Lake Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lumen Christi Catholic came out on top against Adrian on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Titans put the hurt on the Maples with a sharp 12-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.
Ollie Powers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Powers was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Mallory Arcaro and Ava Cumberworth did most of the damage at the plate: Arcaro went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Cumberworth went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave Cumberworth a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Furnas, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Grass Lake waltzed into their match on Friday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They blew past the Blackhawks 16-1.
Bree Salts (2025) was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in four or more in each of the last three games she's played. Emily Brown (2025) also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Grass Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive games.
Grass Lake's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lumen Christi Catholic, their record now sits at 26-9.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lumen Christi Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Grass Lake struggles in that department as they've averaged .521. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lumen Christi Catholic might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Grass Lake in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
