The Wake Forest Cougars are on the road again on Friday and play against the Rolesville Rams at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Wake Forest rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against Garner as Wake Forest made off with a 42-19 victory. Wake Forest pushed the score to 35-13 by the end of the third, a deficit Garner had little chance of recovering from.
Rico Alston had a dynamite game for Wake Forest, rushing for 107 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Jeffrey Coleman did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Rolesville came tearing into Friday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They didn't even let Purnell Swett onto the board and left with a 62-0 win. Given Rolesville's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Purnell Swett is ranked 223rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rolesville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Braden Atkinson, who threw for 211 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Devon Thomas, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Their wins bumped Wake Forest to 7-4 and Rolesville to 10-1.
Wake Forest took a serious blow against Rolesville in their previous meeting back in October, falling 75-27. Can Wake Forest avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
