West Wendover is 9-1 against North Tahoe since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. West Wendover will square off against North Tahoe at 2:00 p.m. West Wendover is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
West Wendover is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Yerington, who was ranked ninth at the time (West Wendover was ranked 23rd). West Wendover walked away with a 6-2 win over Yerington on Saturday. The game was the first time the Wolverines have beaten the Lions on their field since May 17, 2024.
Aidien Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 15 Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one hit in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Danny Soriano, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, North Tahoe entered their tilt with Sierra Lutheran on Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 14-9.
Alexis Ibarra was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, North Tahoe let Peter Rusek and Oscar Whelan run wild. Rusek scored three runs while going 3-for-5, while Whelan went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave Whelan a new career-high. Noah Glickman was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
North Tahoe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
West Wendover is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. North Tahoe's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Wendover has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like North Tahoe struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
