Fort Chiswell is 9-1 against George Wythe since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Pioneers will square off against the Maroons at 4:30 p.m. George Wythe took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Fort Chiswell, who comes in off a win.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Fort Chiswell and Giles meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Pioneers came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 4-1.

Blair Jackson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Nester, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Lilly Goforth was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, George Wythe unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Honaker by a score of 8-7. While the Maroons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 4-0 in the first period.
Like Fort Chiswell, George Wythe also got a great game from a two-way player: Morgan Layne. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. Layne was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Emma Faulkner was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
George Wythe now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Fort Chiswell, their record is now 8-5.
Fort Chiswell skirted past George Wythe 2-1 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
