The Troy Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Potlatch Loggers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Troy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Troy came into this matchup off a tough eight-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Kendrick by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since May 17, 2024.
Dominic Holden was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Potlatch waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Rams.
Jay Marshall made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Marshall was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Waylan Marshall, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Connor Carpenter also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Potlatch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clearwater Valley only managed seven hits.
Potlatch's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Troy, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-4.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Troy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like Potlatch struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Troy might still be hurting after the 10-2 loss they got from Potlatch in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
