After flying high against Edisto last Tuesday, Hampton County came back down to earth. The Hampton County Hurricanes took a 52-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake Marion Gators on Friday. The Hurricanes' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Hampton County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lyric Jones, who posted 17 points. Another player making a difference was Saniyah Sanders, who had five points and three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake Marion to victory, but perhaps none more so than Teonna Allen, who earned seven points along with eight boards and seven assists. Allen has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Rayleigh Davis also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.
Hampton County's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-5. As for Lake Marion, the victory (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 16-1.
