Things are more than getting a little chippy – and downright odd – in beautiful Scottsdale, Ariz.
Two of the state's top programs,
Chaparral (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and
Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.), met in a highly-anticipated game on Friday, but truly only one team showed up.
Saguaro coach John Sanders rested eight of his starters and host Chaparral rolled to a 65-0 victory. Actually, by all reports, Saguaro (8-2) rolled over, saving its top players for the playoffs.

Chaparral, led by quarterback
Conner Brewer, had a 42-0 lead with 1:53 left in the first half playing largely against Saguaro's reserves. It left an empty, bitter feeling all-around, especially for the fans who packed the Chaparral field. That included Arizona State offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, who came to watch Saguaro senior running back
D.J. Foster.
One of the leading scorers in the state, Foster has 41 touchdowns on the season. Foster didn't play except during warm-ups.
Wide receiver
Davonte Neal ran for two touchdowns and scored a third
through the air for Chaparral.
Chaparral coach Charlie Ragle tried to bite his lip during post-game interviews. "I'm not going to get into a war of the word," he told
Richard Obert of the Arizona Republic. He did call the game "disappointing and frustrating."
