After flying high against the Lebanon Greyhounds last Saturday, the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins came back down to earth. Father McGivney Catholic was the victim of a tough 60-36 defeat at the hands of Althoff Catholic on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Father McGivney Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 558th, while Althoff Catholic is ranked 142nd).
Despite the defeat, Father McGivney Catholic saw an underclassman step up: Nolan Keller scored 12 points along with two steals.
Father McGivney Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season. As for Althoff Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Father McGivney Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Metro-East Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. Father McGivney Catholic is facing Metro-East Lutheran at the right time seeing as Metro-East Lutheran is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Althoff Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Marquette Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Althoff Catholic is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
