The James Monroe Mavericks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 33 points or more this season. They blew past Tazewell 81-34 at home. Given James Monroe's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 45th in West Virginia, while Tazewell is ranked 384th in Virginia), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mary Beth Meadows was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 19 points, 11 assists, and nine steals. Meadows is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Maggie Boroski was another key contributor, scoring 24 points.
James Monroe pushed their record up to 7-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Tazewell, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.
James Monroe will head out on the road to face off against Pocahontas County at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tazewell, they will be playing at home against Virginia High at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
