Poplarville is 1-0 against Bay since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Poplarville Hornets will be playing at home against the Bay Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Poplarville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They claimed a resounding 45-12 victory over Tylertown at home. The result was nothing new for Poplarville, who have now won three games by 33 points or more so far this season.
Poplarville can attribute much of their success to Lane Amacker, who rushed for 113 yards, and Tylan Keys, who rushed for 81 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Amacker was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Jason Smith also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Bay's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 42-35 to Greene County.
Poplarville's victory bumped their season record to 6-2 while Bay's defeat dropped theirs to 4-4.
Poplarville was able to grind out a solid win over Bay in their previous meeting back in October of 2014, winning 41-29. Will Poplarville repeat their success, or does Bay have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
