Somers is 9-1 against Brewster since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Tuskers will challenge the Bears at 11:00 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Somers has four straight victories, Brewster has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Somers' hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Wednesday, when they got past Ardsley's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Tuskers put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 14-1 win. The Tuskers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.
Caitlin Fitts was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Julia Peanamanda also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Somers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Mahopac hit Brewster with a four-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bears fell 5-2 to the Indians.
Giana Kusterer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits.
At the plate, Taylor Slavkin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Alanah King was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.
Brewster's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Somers, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
Brewster's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Somers has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. It's a different story for Brewster, though, as they've only averaged .344. Will they be able to contain Somers' hitters?
Somers beat Brewster 3-0 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tuskers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
