On Wednesday, Excel Christian Academy took a serious blow against Valor Christian, falling 67-12. While losing is never fun, Excel Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 470th, while Valor Christian is ranked 97th).
Despite the defeat, Excel Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: Chae Vieira scored ten points. The game was Vieira's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Lyla Hughes was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored 22 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Riley Dean, who scored 14 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Excel Christian Academy and nudges their season record down to 3-4. As for Valor Christian, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
Excel Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Johnson Ferry Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th. Valor Christian and St. Francis will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. St. Francis knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matchups -- so hopefully Valor Christian likes a good challenge.
