After flying high against the Buffalo Bison on Tuesday, the Eldon Mustangs came back down to earth. Eldon was the victim of a rough 78-54 loss at the hands of California on Thursday. Eldon lost against California in their previous head to head back in November of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 57-44 score last time.
Despite the loss, Eldon still got an impressive performance from Sydney Halderman, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The contest was Halderman's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Lydia Cotten was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five rebounds.
Eldon's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for California, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eldon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cuba at 12:00 p.m. on January 25th. California will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hallsville at 7:30 p.m. on January 15th.
