Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, a fact the Northeastern Knights proved on Thursday. They blew past Cambridge City Lincoln, posting a 78-45 win at home. Given Northeastern's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while Cambridge City Lincoln is ranked 392nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Landon Scarrette was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with nine assists and two steals. That's the first time this season that he posted eight or more assists. Dae Lundy was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Despite the defeat, Cambridge City Lincoln saw an underclassman step up: Noah Patterson scored 14 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Elijiah French, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Northeastern has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northeastern will take on Randolph Southern at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Randolph Southern has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 21. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Smith Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Smith Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
