The Berea Pirates will head out to take on the Paris Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Berea has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Berea lost 15-5 to Jackson City on Saturday.
Berea saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake King, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those stolen bases were King's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Paris put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let Menifee County get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
Xavier Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Brown was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Dexter Leverett and Cameron Mays did most of the damage at the plate: Leverett scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Mays scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. Paris is undefeated when Mays posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Hawkins, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Paris always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Menifee County only posted an OBP of .100.
Paris' record now sits at 8-4. As for Berea, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Berea has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Paris struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Berea suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Paris in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
