Basketball Recap: Park City Comes Up Short

Park City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 73-60 to the Cottonwood Colts. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Miners of the 76-65 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February.

Despite the loss, Park City still got an impressive performance from Luke Rice, who went 9 of 17 en route to 26 points and eight rebounds. With that strong performance, Rice is now averaging an impressive 16.7 points per game. Another player making a difference was Michael Zagin, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Park City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cottonwood to victory, but perhaps none more so than John Rosevear, who posted 26 points and six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Rosevear has scored at least a third of Cottonwood's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bo Smith, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Park City's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Cottonwood, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Park City and Tooele will compete for holiday cheer at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Park City is facing Tooele at the right time seeing as Tooele is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Cottonwood will take on Sky View in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cottonwood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Sky View likes a good challenge.
