Manny Socarras made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin Jones, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Even though they lost, Lake Highland Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Foundation Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Ascenders. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by just one run.
Foundation Academy also got a great performance from Michael Surane as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Surane a new career-low in walks (one).
On the hitting side, Aj Zimmerman and Charlie Capozzoli did most of the damage at the plate: Zimmerman scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Capozzoli scored two runs. Jose Taveras was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Foundation Academy's record is now 10-5. As for Lake Highland Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lake Highland Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Foundation Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lake Highland Prep suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Foundation Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Lake Highland Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
