Baseball Recap: Liberty Takes a Loss

Liberty was the 9-0 winner over Camp Point Central when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Eagles fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by just one run.

Jackson Sims was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Sims wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Henry Gibbs, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Dylan Hocking also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Liberty and nudges their season record down to 6-4. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Camp Point Central, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.

Looking ahead, Liberty will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Seymour at 4:30 p.m. As for Camp Point Central, they will head out to challenge Macomb at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
