The Weld Central Rebels struggled with threes on Thursday (the Valley Vikings had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Weld Central fell 38-26 to Valley. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Weld Central in their matchups with Valley: they've now lost four in a row.
Weld Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Riley Phelps, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Weber, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Valley can attribute much of their success to Peyton Savolt, who scored 24 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Savolt has scored at least a third of Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Jimenez, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds.
Weld Central has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Valley, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-6.
Weld Central will take on Eaton at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Eaton's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Weld Central has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Valley will take on University at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. University will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
