It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Gulliver Prep Raiders ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They managed a 46-42 victory over Calvary Christian Academy. The victory was familiar territory for Gulliver Prep who now have three in a row.
Gulliver Prep found their leader in underclassman Mikayla Brown, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds. Allison Podvin was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Calvary Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Taryn Wakefield, who scored 13 points. Wakefield scored a full 31% of Calvary Christian Academy's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Teagan Wakefield, who scored 13 points.
Gulliver Prep is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gulliver Prep will take on Marathon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against North Broward Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
