Philomath is 0-10 against Cascade since April of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Philomath has given up an average of 11.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Stayton hit Philomath with a 16-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors came up short against the Eagles, falling 19-3.
Philomath saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Mason, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Cascade entered their tilt with Sweet Home on Thursday with 14 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 15. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Huskies.
Taylor Bays was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cassidy Crabtree, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Grace Wright, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Cascade hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Philomath's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Cascade, their record is now 17-5.
Philomath might still be hurting after the 25-8 loss they got from Cascade in their previous matchup last Wednesday. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
