The Sumner Stingrays are on the road again on Wednesday and plays the Riverview Sarasota Rams at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. Hopefully Sumner focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
Sumner extended their postseason success against Lakewood Ranch. They blew past the Mustangs 56-17 on the road. Sumner has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 27 points or more this season.
Jewel Harwell was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Briana Gill-guyette, who scored six points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Riverview Sarasota's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 62-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Venice. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Sumner's victory bumped their record up to 21-5. As for Riverview Sarasota, their loss dropped their record down to 21-4.
Sumner took a serious blow against Riverview Sarasota in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, falling 62-24. Can Sumner avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
