Basketball Recap: Portales Piles Up the Points Against Goddard

A well-balanced attack led Portales over Goddard in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Portales Rams blew the Goddard Rockets out of the water with a 58-28 final score. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Natalie Hardwick and Carmen Grado certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hardwick posted eight points and 11 rebounds, while Grado earned 11 points and six boards. Hardwick is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmin De Leon, who had two points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Portales pushed their record up to 14-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points over those games. As for Goddard, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season.

Looking ahead, Portales will take on Artesia at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Portales is facing Artesia at the right time seeing as Artesia is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Goddard, they are taking a road trip to take on Lovington at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
