Basketball Recap: Holland Horton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Petrolia over Olney

Petrolia was the 25-20 winner over Olney when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Petrolia Pirates took a 42-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Olney Cubs on Tuesday. The Pirates' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Petrolia's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Holland Horton, who posted 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Horton has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaydence Barger, who put up seven points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Petrolia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Petrolia's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Olney, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-10.

Petrolia will venture away from home to challenge Windthorst at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Olney, they will host Nocona at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Olney has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
