The Indian Creek Braves will challenge the Cascade Cadets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Indian Creek sitting on seven straight victories and Cascade on five.
Indian Creek lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Martinsville, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Braves put the hurt on the Artesians with a sharp 10-3 win on Monday. Considering the Braves have won five games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Kristen Soots made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Corrynne Gregory, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jada Shepard, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Indian Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martinsville only posted a batting average of .222.
Six must be Cascade's lucky number: they beat McCutcheon with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Cadets came out on top against the Mavericks by a score of 6-2.
Tara Gruca was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Ava Allen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Indian Creek's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cascade, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Indian Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Cascade struggles in that department as they've averaged .399. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Indian Creek suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Cascade in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. Will the Braves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
