Baseball Game Preview: Southeast Lancers vs. Yates Center Wildcats

Southeast has gone a perfect 10-0 against Yates Center recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Lancers will face off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Southeast has four straight victories, Yates Center has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Southeast's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past St. Paul 16-0. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Carter Buzard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last 13 contests.

In other batting news, Southeast let Gannon Hobbs and Garrett Burger run wild. Hobbs got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Burger went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave Burger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Solomon Scott, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Southeast was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Yates Center lost 13-3 to Pleasanton on Thursday.

Southeast's record is now 11-7. As for Yates Center, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Southeast skirted past Yates Center 7-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
