Meanwhile, Douglas Byrd hadn't done well against Purnell Swett recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Douglas Byrd came out on top against Purnell Swett by a score of 44-36. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Seventy-First better focus on containing Jazmine Burns and JayLinda Depina as the pair were huge in Douglas Byrd's win. Burns almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards, while Depina posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Burns has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times she's played. Shania McLucas was another key player, putting up seven points along with five assists and five steals.

Douglas Byrd smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Douglas Byrd's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 7-5. As for Seventy-First, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6.

Everything came up roses for Seventy-First against Douglas Byrd in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 62-35 victory. Will Seventy-First repeat their success, or does Douglas Byrd have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
