The Iola Bulldogs will challenge the Milano Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Last Friday, Iola made easy work of Somerville and carried off a 16-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
The team relied heavily on Colin Fowler, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Eddie Longoria was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Iola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Somerville only posted an OBP of .312.
Meanwhile, Milano won against Round Top-Carmine on Tuesday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Milano never let Round Top-Carmine get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.
Round Top-Carmine's batters probably weren't too happy with Jesus Reyes, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up a single walk). What's more, Reyes gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February.
At the plate, Jackson Reyes was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Milano: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Magee, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Iola pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Milano, their win bumped their record up to 7-5-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Iola has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Milano struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
