Golden West has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Redwood Rangers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Golden West didn't have too much trouble with Porterville on the road as they won 30-14. Golden West pushed the score to 30-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Porterville cut but never quite recovered from.
Among those leading the charge was Raymon Velazquez, who threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Garcia did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals and three extra points.
Meanwhile, Redwood had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They breezed by Monache at home to the tune of 47-7. With Redwood ahead 26-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Redwood found their leader in underclassman Jimmie Burk, who rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Aj Garza jr. was another key contributor, rushing for 87 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Golden West's victory on Friday bumped their record up to 2-6. Redwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Golden West ended up a good deal behind Redwood in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, losing 23-7. Will Golden West have more luck at home instead of on the road?
