Douglass is 0-10 against Cheney since April of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Bulldogs will challenge the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Douglass sitting on three straight victories and Cheney on five.
On Thursday, Douglass made easy work of Belle Plaine and carried off a 12-2 win.
Addie Brewer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Brewer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Douglass let Braylie Knisely and Maddie Waggoner run wild. Knisely went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Waggoner went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Knisely has posted since back in April of 2024. Cheyenne Wagoner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Douglass kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cheney made easy work of Medicine Lodge on Thursday and carried off an 18-2 victory. Fans of the Cardinals have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Lucy Fouquet was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Fouquet was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Macey Batt and Erika Block did most of the damage at the plate: Batt went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Block went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Block is crushing it when it comes to RBI: she's brought in at least three every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Adelle Fouquet, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs.
Douglass' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Cheney, their record now sits at 5-0.
Douglass might still be hurting after the 16-4 defeat they got from Cheney when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
