On Saturday, Plainfield didn't have too much trouble with New Haven on the road as they won 67-51. Given Plainfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while New Haven is ranked 309th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eli Ellis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 4 assists. The contest was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton East, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and seven assists.
New Haven's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tarvar Baskerville, who scored ten points. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for him. Chris Stewart was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.
Plainfield's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for New Haven, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Plainfield will finish 2023 at home by hosting Southport at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Southport focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday. New Haven and Fort Wayne Snider will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Fort Wayne Snider will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
