The biggest upset of the week belonged to Vela, who defeated 970th ranked La Joya, 49-0.
Sammy Jimenez of Edinburg ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region IV District 30 this season against Donna last week. Jimenez ran for 57 yards on the play and finished with 82 on the day as his team fell to the Redskins.
Omar Ozuna was the best receiver in the league this week as the Coyotes lost to the Sabercats. Ozuna racked up 2 receptions for 49 yards.
Matthew Whitesides was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 162 yards as Edinburg North lost to Vela. Teammate Adrian Alvarez added to the ground attack by rushing for 125 yards.
Michael Harrison put up the best numbers in passing as Edinburg lost to Donna. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 67 yards and 2 touchdowns. Harrison's favorite target this week was Jordan Saldana, who caught 5 passes for 49 yards.
Whitesides was a passing and rushing force as the Cougars defeated Economedes. Whitesides' key target this week was Matt Ramirez, who caught 2 passes for 26 yards.
Leading 5A Region IV District 30 in both passing and receiving yards, Joey Caceres' team's Harrison and Saldana have proven to be a lethal combination. Harrison has thrown for 401 yards this season, while Saldana has 11 catches for 260 yards. Edinburg North's Whitesides leads the league in rushing yards with 422.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Juarez-Lincoln takes on Roy Garza's team. Juarez-Lincoln is in fourth place, while the Cougars are in second place.
Tomas Garcia's team was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Juarez-Lincoln defeated Palmview 13-7 earlier in the week.
